"Spring Break" For 46 Year Olds . . . Three Games In Two Days
The Pittsburgh Pirates call Bradenton home
during Spring Training. This day, the Philadelphia
Phillies came a calling.
Al Lang Field in St. Pete (Tampa Bay vs. Cleveland).
For years this was the Spring home of the St. Louis
Cardinals . . . and a favorite haunt of this writer. Times
have changed though. Yesteryear's $4 tickets now start
at $15 at this locale.
Legends Field, the Spring home of the Yankees,
in Tampa, is a pint-sized version of Yankee
Stadium. On this evening when Roger Clemens
showed up to fuel rumors of a possible return to
the Yankees, the Bombers took on Cincinnati.
During home games at Yankee Stadium, the game
concludes with the singing of New York, New York --
Frank Sinatra for wins and Liza Minelli's version for
losses. This tradition carries on in Tampa as well.
Since the game ended in a 10-inning tie, Liza
got the nod.
