New York Trip: Cooperstown and the Big Apple

At the Baseball Hall of Fame, we reaffirmed our wedding vow to attend all the major league baseball parks. Posted by Hello

Our Bed and Breakfast in Cooperstown was built in 1805. It overlooks the third baseline of Doubleday Field, a major league size diamond, on the site where legend has it that baseball was first played. Posted by Hello

We attended that wacky, Monty-Python-inspired, Tony-award winning musical comedy Spamalot. At the end of the performance, the cast led the crowd in singing "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" (from Life of Brian). Posted by Hello

David Hyde Pierce (from Frasier fame) was in the cast of Spamalot. He mingled with his fans for 10 minutes after the performance. Posted by Hello

From The Cheap Seats (if you consider $45 for an upper deck seat at Yankee Stadium cheap) Posted by Hello

Life In These East Tennessee Hills

In Monday's Knoxville News-Sentinel, the lead story told of the bust of what is believed to be the "biggest and oldest cockfighting pit in the country... " located in the Cocke County town of Del Rio.

During the raid, the Humane Society euthanized as many as 300 of the aggressive chickens, leading to an outcry from chicken owners and spectators. Let's return to the story where it gets very interesting:

David Webb, a gamecock owner from Rhea County who said he lost more than 20 chickens valued at $150 each during the raid, was furious that officials from the Humane Society and U.S. Dept. of Agriculture killed the birds. . .

"They killed my chickens," he said. "I've been around this stuff all my life. Everything I've ever known is a chicken fight."

How is this for a picture????

Tales From The Vapor Trail

Flying out of Nashville today was truly an experience that begs to be shared. With the weekend conclusion of Bonnaroo and the Country Music Fan Fair -- musically polar opposites -- their respective pilgrims started returning home . . . and I was caught in the cross hairs of this mass exodus. The differences between the two groups were comical. It was Red State vs. Blue States, Electric Guitar vs. Steel Guitar, Widespread Panic vs. Cowboy Troy.

In an hour or so of observation and rumination, here are a few differences that I encountered or perceived between the Fan Fairies and the Bonnarooritans:

Apparel:
Bonnarooritans - T-Shirts, shorts, sandals
Fan Fairies - Lots of Polyester

Festival Coiffure:
Fan Fairies - Big, chemically-treated, hair
Bonnarooritans - Unwashed hair

Head Gear:
Bonnarooritans - Tattered baseball hat
Fan Fairies - Autographed cowboy hat

Smoker's Choice:
Fan Fairies - Eve 100s
Bonnarooritans - Cannabis

Drug of Choice:
Bonnarooritans - Ritalin
Fan Fairies - Premarin

Drink in Hand:
Fan Fairies - Sweet Tea
Bonnarooritans - Bud Lite

Gift Shop Purchase:
Bonnarooritans - Trail Mix and Tylenol
Fan Fairies - Goo-Goo Clusters and Music City snow globes
