Hot Diggitty Dog! A Backstage Lovefest.

Las Vegas(AP)--Scott Gilliam from Union City, TN. enjoys an epicurean, yet sensual moment with his favorite singer, Sir Elton John, recently in Las Vegas. Elton has recently employed this "singing into the corndog" bit into all his Las Vegas concerts while filling in for Celine Dion. "We like to find the uptight, Bible belt, conservative types for the irony," said Elton. "Just the thought of a homophobic, southern boy feeding me what you Americans call a corndog has to be worth the price of admission." After asking what made him choose Gilliam he answered, "I guess I like men with that Dale Earnhardt look. And the fact he knew all the words to 'Daniel'."

IT ONCE WAS LOST BUT NOW IS FOUND!!

A few days ago Mike inquired about the existence of foreseen pictures below. I became panicky because I honestly did not know where they were. I fortunately found them in an old red van at Wal-Marts and here they are.
I do worry about Mike's obsession with corndogs and wondering if it is repression or depression. Was it a repressed childhood incident that occurred (did that dog in LaCenter bite off something and we weren't told)? Or is he a "little" depressed over his ________________________________________________ (please write your own vienna sausage comments here).

News Update from Vegas

See Below.....Big Elvis and Elton John...our two Vegas favorites......

Barbary Coast act a big hit with John
Barbary Coast headliner Big Elvis has a big fan: the Rocket Man himself,
Elton John.
On occasion, Sir Elton, who headlines at Caesars Palace during Celine Dion's
off-weeks, has been catching other shows, including that of Pete Vallee, the
500-pound-plus Elvis impersonator, according to the Sun, Britain's
largest-selling daily tabloid newspaper.
Elton sent a photographer over to take pictures of the big guy, the Sun said.
Photographs of Big Elvis will be included in a book of some of John's
favorite things and will be sold to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation,
according to an article posted on Elton's Web site.
The two performers have yet to meet.
Big Elvis and Sir Elton. Now there's a Vegas moment.

BAD EXAMPLES

I guess every family has to have an "Uncle Scott". Now he will probably want to get married in Vegas also.

Potty Training: I told you to take Sydney's lead on this. She does not take NO for an answer.

I Can't Wait to See my East Tn. Family

What happened to the World's Longest Corndog

Well, obviously i put it in the fridge instead of the freezer and now we have a mold problem(although it has fixed the accidental circumcision by a shaky Mohel). I have seemed to have lost the original "dog and baby" pictures where they are both celebrating their recent Bris. Shalom to you, and also to you.

Extreme Dating

In a most unusual cultural doubleheader, Lisa and I attended the UT-Florida basketball game on Saturday afternoon followed by an evening with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Frank Sinatra, Jr. Sandwiched in between was a post-game, pre-symphony meal at the Krystal - that great Gilliam standard for romantic dinners. The Vols went down in defeat to the Gators, but afterwards we enjoyed a wonderful performance by the Symphony and especially Frank Sinatra, Jr. who sang all of his dad's favorites like Summer Wind, NY NY, and I've Got You Under My Skin. The only disappointment was that he did not sing the Sinatra holiday classic --the Woody Woodpecker Song.

Does Scott's latest entry pass the 4-way test, Mike?
If it does then let me add.

Sir Scotty won't dare to make the same statement about his Pop. In the first place if he does, my response will be stonger than Balderdash! My reply will be HORSEFEATHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After the 70+ sets that I have played down here, he will think I have been taking lessons at Nick Bollettieri's Tennis Resort. Standing by for a challenge! Pop

Tennis News

Young Scotty Gilliam has finally bit off much more than he could possibly chew. Yesterday afternoon, he advised Marilyn that he would be beating his Dad at tennis, if not immediately, then within the next couple of weeks.

And to that I say, Balderdash! Definitely not going to happen. Hopefully the weather will be suitable for a challenge match this week. If I thought the quality would be suitable, I would have Dr Joe Harpole's TV station WOBT come out and film this event for posterity's sake.

You will have to settle for an update here. Stay tuned.

Baptism By Blog

As we all embark on this new style of communication, it is entirely appropriate to come to an agreement on how we should conduct ourselves. Therefore, in deference to Scott, I believe that we should look no further than applying the principles initiated by uberRotarian Paul Harris, who incidentally was a classmate of mine in the 8th grade.

So let's all commit to memory the following Rotary "Four Way Test" that is detailed below along with my commentary.

  1. Is it the Truth? This may be the most difficult for all of us as we have never let the truth get in the way of a cheap laugh.
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned? Speaking of Fair, this would be the appropriate forum to post such pictures as the World's Largest Corndog.
  3. Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendship? The fact that Scott has invited the womenfolk into this forum is a tremendous step forward . . . perhaps he will soon see the light and recognize their right to pray in public.
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned? This Blog is a wonderful way to document family milestones such as young Nick's new interest of reading about Thomas the Train while sitting on the porcelain throne. But please, Russ, don't get the idea that you can reenact this photo on the john with the February issue of Popular Science.

With that preamble mercifully over, I am excited to join you all in this exchange of . . . uh, in this exchange. See you at the virtual dinner table where we all fit!

Tennis News Flash

At the February 1st Union City Council meeting, Bart White once again asked for city assistance in getting the long awaited indoor tennis courts off the ground. Per Bart, the courts would be located across from the Middle School courts, would consist of 2 indoor courts and that $215,000 had been raised. He added that he would have no problem raising the balance of the funds, if the city agrees to staff it.
Curiously, this new council seemed positive, although cautious about how much the staffing would cost. I think it should have been clarified that these courts should only be operated for 4 to 5 months per year.
Anyway, they are going to get some revenue numbers together before the next council meeting to determine economics of it....but it might just happen.
